Sega Invites Roblox Users To Create Fan-Made Like A Dragon Games With Canon Guidelines

Sega has announced a new initiative encouraging Roblox users to develop fan-made games based on its mature-rated Like a Dragon series, formerly known as Yakuza. This move is part of a broader licensing plan involving companies like Netflix and Lionsgate, aiming to expand the presence of established franchises within the Roblox platform.

To maintain consistency with the official Like a Dragon universe, Sega has set clear guidelines for these fan creations. Submissions must adhere to the established lore, storylines, characters, and settings of the mainline games. Sega emphasized that while fan contributions are welcome, these games will not be considered official canon.

For a fan-made Like a Dragon game to be considered by Sega, it must attract an average of 1,000 daily players. This criterion underscores Sega's commitment to quality and community engagement within the Roblox ecosystem.

This initiative reflects a growing trend of companies embracing fan creativity. For instance, Devolver Digital launched Big Fan Games, a publishing label dedicated to adaptations of entertainment brands, allowing independent developers to create original games based on iconic film, television, and comic properties.

By fostering such collaborations, Sega and other companies aim to enrich their franchises and strengthen connections with their fan communities, highlighting the significant role of fan-made content in the gaming industry.
